Webinar: Scenario Based Training to Improve Operator Decision Making
  • Date From 8th November 2018
  • Date To 8th November 2018

Overview

Decision making is a skill like any other, proficiency is gained and maintained through practice. The Centre for Operator Performance has funded several projects to develop tools that enable operators to practice decision making, with and without the use of simulators. Use of the tools from these projects at NOVA Chemical's Joffre Ethylene complex is described. This includes both decision making exercises (DMX), a low cost tool which enables operators to practice decision making, and Shadowbox, which enables operators to compare their responses to those of experts. Benefits of the tools when used in conjunction with a high fidelity simulator are described.

Speakers

Ron Besuijen is the Technical Training Specialist for NOVA Chemical's E2 Ethylene Plant, overseeing console operator training using high fidelity simulation. David Strobhar is a human factors specialists with over 30 years of process plant experience and author of Human Factors in Process Plant Operation.
