Research and Innovation

Behzad Partoon
Behzad is an Associate Professor at Aarhus University’s (AU) Department of Biological and Chemical Engineering. He earned his PhD from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Malaysia, with a focus on novel carbon capture technologies. After completing his PhD, he worked on developing and operating a high-TRL (2.5 MMSCFD) CO₂ flow loop for cryogenic carbon capture at UTP, and later joined AU as a postdoctoral researcher working on pilot-scale power-to-X (PtX) technologies.
At AU, Behzad leads research at the PtX Test Facility, specializing in innovation at mid-TRL (4–6), and is a member of the data management committee of NEST Facilities in Denmark. He also heads a group at the Novo Nordisk Foundation CO₂ Research Center (CORC), developing new carbon capture solutions across TRL 1–6. Behzad is the module leader for Physical and Technical Chemistry and Catalysis, and supervises students from bachelor’s to PhD level. His expertise encompasses process design and optimization, equipment and reactor design for laboratory- and pilot-scale units, experimental research and development focused on higher TRLs, modeling, and digitalization. He collaborates closely with industrial partners, manages multi-partner projects, secures funding, and publishes widely in peer-reviewed journals.
