Dr Zsuzsanna Gyenes, IChemE Safety Centre - Past incidents and learning

Zsuzsanna is the Deputy to the Director of the IChemE Safety Centre (ISC) with extensive experience in training CEOs of high hazard industrial sites on Process Safety Leadership and Culture, implementing tools and overseeing Process Safety Management systems for industrial sites, reviewing safety reports, advising on risk reduction and performing on-site inspections. She has developed guidance documents on Lead Process Safety Metrics, spoken at international conferences and runs technical symposiums worldwide. Zsuzsanna also prepares and delivers technical online training materials and webinars on Process Safety Management, Change Management and learnings from major incidents, hazard identification techniques, runaway reactions and facilitated the ISC interactive case studies with extensive worldwide participation.

She later moved into a role as a Seveso Site Inspector for Hungary, at this time she also obtained her PhD on the development of procedures and tools for the improvement of industrial safety against external effects. Following her time as a Seveso Inspector, she was the Head of Section for Nuclear Safety in the National Directorate General for Disaster Management in Budapest. Her role before joining ISC was as a Scientific Technical Officer for the European Commission Joint Research Centre, where she worked to assist member states on learning from incidents and Seveso implementation, including land use planning policy.

Andy Brazier, AB Risk - A human factors perspective

Andy's combination of engineering and human factors experience means he is particularly able to take a systems view to address the full range of technical, process and people risks.  He has a reputation for being able to assess complex situations to develop practical and effective solutions. He has assisted many operating plants to understand their risks, especially during times of plant and organisational change; and has provided human factors and process safety support to major global projects. He has worked as an independent freelance consultant since 2005 with clients in the oil, gas, chemical and power industries. He was lead author of the recent update of EEMUA 201 on control room design (2019) and has taken a lead role with a small team writing a soon-to-be-published compendium of Trevor Kletz's work on behalf of IChemE.
