Overview

The webinar series has the objective of putting process safety at the centre of the interesting topic of digitalisation. It will explore the opportunities and challenges that digitalisation brings for process safety. It is hoped that this event will provide a forum for networking across disciplines, and encourages industry discussion on this exciting and challenging topic. The theme for session two will be 'Digitalisation, new threats to process safety'.

Cyber Attacks on Process Plants: Making sense of what is needed

Clive is a chartered member of the IChemE, InstMC and is a Professional Process Safety Engineer (PPSE). He is the current vice-chair of the IChemE Safety & Loss Prevention Special Interest Group and is a full and longstanding member of the IEC committee that writes the IEC62443 and IEC 61508 groups of standards (on cyber and safety instrumented systems respectively).  He is the author of IChemE's book on safety instrumented systems (as used in IEC61511 Part 3) and is an expert witness to the courts on safety instrumented systems.

Nic Butcher, HSE

Cyber Risk Assessment

Nic is HM Specialist (Electrical, Control and Cyber Security) Inspector for HSE. He is a Chartered Chemical Engineer who has worked as a Specialist Inspector for HSE in the major hazards industries for 10 years.  His main roles include inspection and investigation of incidents on COMAH regulated sites covering functional safety, control systems, cyber security and electrical ignition hazards. 

Prior to HSE, Nic had an industrial background working as a Control System Design, Installation and Commissioning Engineer for a leading control system vendor working on projects in the chemical, oil & gas and other related sectors.  He has also worked for a major bulk chemical manufacturing company on improvement projects for control and safety systems and for the Environment Agency.
