Overview
Dame Judith Hackitt, who led the independent review into building safety and fire regulations following the terrible tragedy at Grenfell Tower, will provide some personal reflections on the moral and ethical importance of genuine safety leadership. She will talk about the transformational journey that she was part of in the chemical industry following the tragedy at Flixborough in 1974 and which led to the worldwide industry commitment to Responsible Care. She will also reflect on her experience as chair of the Health and Safety Executive from 2007-2016 and some of the best - and worst - safety cultures she encountered.
The Grenfell Tower review sparked an extended mission to drive culture change and bring safety leadership to a sector which has been engaged in a “race to the bottom” for far too long.
This event is held in partnership with Hazards Forum. The lecture will be held at the Institution of Civil Engineers, One Great George Street, to be followed by networking drinks and food at IMechE.
