Leadership changes at the IChemE Safety Centre

The IChemE Safety Centre was established in 2014 to drive continuous improvement in Safety Performance and Major Hazard Management across the globe, working in partnership with industry, regulators and academia. It does this by providing organisations and individuals across a wide range of sectors with access to strategic advice, knowledge sharing, learning, development and benchmarking.
At the heart of the IChemE Safety Centre is a vibrant, global network, encompassing industry, regulators and academia – working together to advance process safety and major hazard management for the benefit of all. Thank you to everyone involved.
The IChemE Safety Centre is now looking ahead to the future, including identifying a Chair and Director to work with partners towards our collective mission of a safer, more sustainable world.
IChemE Safety Centre Chair
After three years as IChemE Safety Centre Chair, Dr Marlene Kanga stepped down recently to concentrate on other interests. We thank Marlene for her leadership and wise counsel and wish her all the best in her new endeavours. IChemE will shortly begin the search for a new Chair.
IChemE Safety Centre Director
Jan Tucker joined IChemE as Director of the IChemE Safety Centre in May 2025, taking over from the Founding Director, Trish Kerin. Unfortunately, Jan has now left his role due to unforeseen medical and family issues, and we begin the search for his successor while thanking him for his efforts and wishing him the very best.
In the short term, Fiona Macleod, Chief Technical Officer, will assume leadership of the Safety Centre while we review the requirements of the Director role and recruit.
There have been significant changes for the IChemE Safety Centre over the last year – some foreseen and others unforeseeable. I and the IChemE Board of Trustees would like to thank you for your continuing commitment to the Centre, process safety and our collective aims. The team of Fiona Macleod, Paul Battersby, Tracey Donaldson, and Eftychia Liampou are busy reinstating a calendar of regular events and activities focusing on the things that you have told us you want.
We look forward to continuing to work with you into 2026 and beyond.
