Work-based Learner Member

Work-based learner membership is free
If you are in work and working toward an apprenticeship, technical/vocational qualification or other structured formal training you can become a Work-based Learner Member and access numerous membership resources such as:
- Professional learning and training courses: discount on a range of courses, conferences, online and in-person training, ad-hoc events and books
- Careers advice: find careers related advice in our careers section
- Member Groups: operating around the world, and led by local volunteers, member groups provide opportunities to network and connect with other chemical engineers local to you
- Special Interest Groups: our special interest groups cater to a wide range of industry sectors and professional interests
- Mentor Match: launched in October 2024, our Mentor Match programme helps connect you with potential mentors or mentees
- Knowledge Hub, AccessEngineering, Journals and Knovel: access to technical content, articles, reference works and interactive datasets
- Professional registration: Progress to EngTech or Chartered status with the IChemE through your work-based learning, with tailored support and guidance
- The Chemical Engineer: access to our monthly magazine in digital and/or printed form, alongside the latest news, job vacancies, and other useful resources
- Young Engineers Awards for Innovation and Sustainability (YEAIS): for 18-30 year olds to recognise and celebrate the ideas and innovation emerging in the chemical engineering profession
- IChemE Connect: engage, collaborate and network with other engineers across the globe via our member-only online community
- Loss Prevention Bulletin (LPB): access to our main safety publication, with six new issues each year, plus 50 years of archives
- Sustainability Hub: access to peer-reviewed knowledge and free, on-demand sustainability training

Requirements
To become a Work-based Learner Member you should:
- be studying an apprenticeship, technical/vocational qualification or a formally structured training programme
- be in employment
- not have been an IChemE member previously
- once you are no longer a work-based learner you should progress to a different membership grade as appropriate.
As a Work-based Learner Member, we’ll reach out to you once a year to confirm you are still eligible for this membership grade and wish to continue with membership. There’s no cost to renew, just a quick confirmation to ensure you’re still eligible and can continue enjoying your member benefits.
