Shahana McKenzie has led Bioenergy Australia since 2017, spearheading the creation of industry alliances including the Low Carbon Fuels Alliance and the Renewable Gas Alliance, which collectively represent over 450 stakeholder organisations from across the biofuel supply chain. The alliances aim to advance low-carbon fuels and renewable natural gas production and deployment, policy, education, and marketing across Australia and New Zealand. She also initiated the Renewable Gas Challenge to replace 20% of Australia’s domestic gas with renewable sources by 2030. Under her leadership, membership has grown 400%, now encompassing leading domestic and global brands.

Shahana has successfully advocated for Australia’s first Bioenergy Roadmap and the creation of the Jet Zero Council, advancing policy, investment, and practical solutions for decarbonising hard-to-abate sectors such as aviation, shipping, rail, and heavy industry. She is widely recognised for her ability to build collaborative relationships across government, industry, and communities.

Shahana currently sits on numerous advisory groups and expert panels, including:

She has also founded public campaigns promoting sustainable cities and green spaces, including the Living Cities Alliance and KIDSCAPE.
