Overview

This course will help delegates better understand all aspects of recovering energy from non-recyclable waste materials.

The course covers various plant types including energy from waste, anaerobic digestion, high temperature incineration, pyrolysis and gasification. As well as exploring the technical and operational aspects of producing energy from waste, the course also covers the business case and business benefits of Energy from Waste (EfW) and wider policy, regulatory and environmental factors. The course draws upon real-life case studies and examples and will help delegates better understand the practical considerations and business aspects of EfW. 

There will be an assessment at the end of the course. Following successful completion, you will receive an IChemE Energy from Waste pass certificate.

By the end of the course, you will understand:

  • how the energy from waste process works across a range of plant types
  • technical/operational considerations including process intensification, energy efficiency and waste quantities/disposal
  • how EfW contributes to broader waste management policies
  • the business case for EfW plants including the pros and cons of different plant types
  • environment, social and economic impacts of EfW technologies
  • market and legislative factors impacting EfW.

Course delivery

Online 

Online courses consist of two live and interactive modules with the trainer, each lasting 3.5 hours. There will also be some work to complete independently before the course and between the live sessions. More details will be provided after you have registered.

Live sessions are delivered via Microsoft Teams. If you don't already have this installed, you can join as a guest in order to access the training.

Face-to-face 

Face-to-face courses are delivered over two days.

Attendance certificate and CPD hours

An e-certificate will be issued at the end of the course to confirm attendance and CPD hours logged. Please note that you must attend the whole course to receive the certificate. 

In the case of online courses, CPD hours should be used as an approximate guide and will vary depending on the preferred approach of the delegate and to what extent additional learning is completed.
