Overview
Join us for an insightful and interactive careers seminar designed to connect chemical engineering students with leading employers in the sector. This event will feature lightning talks from industry professionals, a dynamic panel discussion exploring current trends and recruitment practices, guidance on CVs, LinkedIn profiles, and navigating the application process and a relaxed networking reception. Speakers from Arthian, Mott MacDonald, RSE, EDF Energy, Green Cat Hydrogen & Allen Associates.
Speakers
Robin Westacott, Associate Professor, Heriot-Watt University
Robin graduated in Applied Chemistry from what was Hatfield Polytechnic – now the University of Hertfordshire – in 1991. He completed his doctorate in theoretical chemistry at the University of Reading in 1995. He worked as Post-Doctoral Research Associate at King’s College London and as Research Fellow at the University of Texas at Austin. He joined Heriot-Watt University in 2001 as Lecturer in Chemical Engineering. In 2008 he, in partnership with Caledonian Alloys, was awarded KTP Best UK Partnership and KTP Engineering Excellence Award for a project involving the cleaning of waste metal alloys. In 2011, robin was promoted to Senior Lecturer, now Associate Professor, in Chemical Engineering.
In 2017 he was seconded from his academic role to lead the successful development of Graduate Apprenticeships in the university across four academic schools through funding applications, programme development and implementation. Between 2019 and 2022 he was a Council Member of the Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce and Co-Chair of their Inspiring Talent Committee.

Aaron leads engagement initiatives across Scotland, Ireland, and Europe for the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), working to connect students, professionals, and industry leaders.
