IChemE and All About Futures team up to bring chemical, biochemical and process engineering to life in schools
28th November 2025
The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and All About Futures are excited to announce a brand-new partnership to deliver DiscoverChemEngLIVE Challenge Days in schools during this academic year and beyond.
Developed by IChemE and All About Futures, and powered by regional delivery partners CATCH, Education Academy Scotland, and RTC North, this programme will give schools across Merseyside & Cheshire, Yorkshire & the Humber, Scotland, and the North East the chance to explore the exciting and impactful world of chemical, biochemical and process engineering through interactive, hands-on experiences at no cost to schools.
DiscoverChemEngLIVE is designed to spark curiosity, confidence, and creativity in Year 8 students from state-funded schools. Each Challenge Day blends imagination with practical problem-solving through a series of fast-paced, team-based activities - from tackling sustainability challenges to uncovering how engineers transform everyday materials like seaweed, graphite, and sand into the products we all rely on.
The goal? To show students how chemical and process engineers make a real difference - combining creativity, collaboration, and innovation to develop sustainable solutions that improve lives and protect the planet – helping to engineer a sustainable world.
Dr Rachel Bibby, Director of Member Experience and Professional Learning shared her thoughts: “Building on the recent success of DiscoverChemEngLIVE events, I am delighted that we’ll be bringing chemical and process engineering to more young people through our collaboration with experienced delivery partners in these targeted areas in the UK. These events are so important for showcasing chemical and process engineering as an exciting and varied career path and where local employers can demonstrate the range of opportunities they have on offer to future talent.”

What is chemical engineering?
Chemical, biochemical and process engineering is the application of science, mathematics and economics in the process of turning raw materials into everyday, and more specialist, products. Professional chemical engineers design, construct and manage process operations all over the world. Energy, pharmaceuticals, food and drink, synthetic fibres and clean drinking water are just some of the industry sectors and products where chemical engineering plays a central role.
IChemE
The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) advances chemical engineering's contribution for the benefit of society. We facilitate the development of chemical engineering professionals and provide connections to a powerful network of around 32,000 members in more than 100 countries.
We support our members in applying their expertise and experience to make an influential contribution to solving major global challenges, and are the only organisation permitted to award Chartered Chemical Engineer status and Professional Process Safety Engineer registration.
