Congratulations to those of you receiving examination results at this time of year.
If you’re heading off to study chemical engineering this Autumn here are a few tips to get you started. If you’re thinking about different options; perhaps going through clearing, looking for an apprenticeship or taking a break from study you can undertake virtual work experience to find out more about chemical and process engineering and different sectors.
When you have received confirmation of your university place to study chemical or process engineering or a closely related subject, you can apply to join IChemE as a student member. Student members can access member-exclusive resources including:
- Events, competitions and other opportunities
- IChemE’s Student pocketbook containing concepts, principles and formulae for chemical engineering students
- The Chemical Engineer journal online for news, views and jobs from the chemical, biochemical and process engineering sectors
- Knovel e-library, an online resource combining books, technical information, interactive equations and analytical tools
You’ll be receiving lots of information and guidance about confirming your place and starting university from UCAS and from the university. Here are our three additional top tips for new chemical engineering students:

You may be expected to complete reading or other tasks in advance of starting your course. As a student member of IChemE, you’ll be able to access member-exclusive resources and get ahead.
Networking
If you haven't already set up a LinkedIn account, this is something you can do and then follow IChemE. Look out for messages from IChemE to support your journey through your undergraduate studies and beyond.
