STEM outreach

Interested in STEM outreach?

If you live in the UK and would like to inspire the next generation of chemical engineers, we would encourage you to register as a STEM Ambassador.

The STEM Ambassador initiative is managed by STEM Learning – the No.1 organisation for supporting schools, colleges, teachers and others in science, technology (including computing), engineering and mathematics – the strategically important STEM subjects.

There are over 30,000 registered STEM Ambassadors from more than 2,500 different employers across the UK. They volunteer their time to encourage and inspire young people to progress further with their STEM subjects through a range of activities including presentations, mentoring and careers talks.

Find out more or register as a STEM Ambassador today.

If you’re looking for other opportunities to promote the profession, here are a few organisations you may consider working with:

Arkwright Scholarships Trust’s Mentoring Programme

The Arkwright Scholarships Trust administers scholarships to high-calibre students in the UK. Their Engineering Scholarships support students through their A levels or Scottish Highers and encourage students to pursue engineering at university or through a higher-level apprenticeship.

They also offer a growing number of Undergraduate Scholarships to a select group of existing Arkwright Engineering Scholars. Arkwright’s mentoring programme is in need of mentors across all engineering disciplines.

Social Mobility Foundation

The Social Mobility Foundation is a charity aimed at supporting talented young people from disadvantaged backgrounds to go to university and pursue careers in their chosen field.

Their Aspiring Professionals Programme (APP) works with Year 12 students and offers mentor support via email, internship opportunities, skills sessions to boost confidence, advice about universities and support with open day visits, as well as CV advice and phone interview practice. Support continues through university until students have secured a job in their chosen sector.

Speakers for Schools

Speakers for Schools is a UK charity launched in 2011 helping state schools inspire their students and broaden horizons through access to the insights, experiences and expertise of today’s leading figures through free talks and more — free of charge.

Speakers for Schools works with figures from all industries and fields, making it possible for them to give their time in a state school despite their numerous commitments through unique talks that inform, inspire and help prepare students for their future.

Primary Engineer

Primary Engineer is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2005. Their aim is to encourage young people to consider careers in STEM related professions, and believes that this should start at an early age.

They're looking for engineers to help them inspire the next generation of engineers. If you're interested in engaging with younger students visit the Primary Engineer website for more information or to register your interest.
