Overview

The talk will focus on the importance and subtleties of solid-liquid filtration -- converting a mixture of solids and liquids into something that is less harmful, more delicious or simply more valuable -- and considers those objects, foods, drinks and medicines that we use everyday:

  • A pseudo-history.
  • A very brief introduction to some of the physical phenomena at play.
  • The largest and most damaging structures that humankind has ever created?
  • How would parcels be delivered?
  • A case study in value (one of the most unwelcome phone calls I ever took).
  • Where do you start with a problematic mixture of solids and liquids.
  • A few rules-of-thumb for free.
