Overview

You are invited to attend the North West Member Group annual meeting. We encourage all members of the group to attend, particularly those who wish to support our activities or have questions that you would like to put directly to the committee.  As well as reports from the chair and treasurer, the meeting will include a guest speaker.

Committee vacancies

Nominations are now open for the roles of Secretary, Vice-Chair and Webmaster. We request that all those submitting nominations attend the annual meeting.

Speaker

Phil Quayle, Lead Chemist, Moltex FLEX

Phil has a decade of industrial experience in chemistry and engineering, most of which has been within the nuclear industry. Phil started his journey in nuclear on the nuclear graduates scheme in 2014, where he gained experience in site ownership, site decommissioning, operational reactor chemistry and supply chain in placements with the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority at Sellafield site, EDF Energy at Heysham 2 and Costain nuclear respectively. Following the scheme Phil joined Rolls-Royce Submarines materials and chemistry team, before moving into the Rolls-Royce Submarines Innovation group as an innovation engineer.

Phil joined Moltex FLEX, a UK advance nuclear reactor technology company, in early 2021 as the lead chemist, with responsibility for the development of the reactors chemistry design, materials selection, laboratories and radiation protection. Since Phil joined the company its size and profile has grown significantly and Moltex FLEX are now well known in the nuclear community. Phil will be speaking about his experience to date, the Moltex FLEX technology and Moltex need for chemical engineers as the company moves forward on its aggressive target for operation of first of a kind reactor in the early 2030s.
