Overview

Pressure safety systems are designed to offer ultimate protection to people and process plants from high or low pressure hazards and the potential loss of containment of harmful material during the plant's life. Pressure relief systems ensure the protection of process plant systems from possible catastrophic events during process excursions from the normal operating envelope. Failure of pressure safety systems usually has significant safety, environmental and financial impacts on businesses. Because pressure relief systems are considered a last line of defence, the demand on them should be as low as possible.

Using a case study approach from real world examples, this presentation will outline a consistent and logical approach to the design and installation of pressure relief systems including relief valves, bursting discs, discharge and disposal systems, inlet pipework, and associated instrumentation.

The presentation will be delivered by Rana Faisal Mahmood, a Lead Process Engineering Consultant with Petrotec Engineering Limited based in Stockton on Tees. Faisal is responsible for process engineering support to the petrochemical, speciality chemical and oil & gas industries in the region. He has almost 15 years of experience as a Process / Lead Process Engineer for several offshore and onshore assignments in both green field and brown field projects. Faisal is a Chartered Engineer and Member of the IChemE. He graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from the Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology, University of Punjab, Pakistan.
