Webinar: Membrane Filtration and its Application

Webinar: Membrane Filtration and its Application
  • Date From 15th May 2023
  • Date To 15th May 2023
  • Price Free of charge, open to all.
  • Location Online: 10:00 BST. Duration: 1 hour.

Overview

Industrial application of membrane technology was initially developed for the treatment of water. Its applicability has now widened to include water treatment, chemical processing, food processing and biotechnology.

The webinar will focus on pressure driven membrane filtration processes, namely microfiltration, ultrafiltration, nanofiltration and reverse osmosis technologies, which differ primarily on their rejection characteristics.

Membrane filtration is a relatively young technology, emerging in the 1950s and only becoming an industrially useful technology from the beginning of the 1980s. Within the water and dairy sectors membrane technology has established itself as a key separation technology due to its ability to separate bacteria, proteins, sugars, and salt from water at large scale for low CAPEX and OPEX.

In other sectors membrane filtration is a relatively new technology and early adopters can bring significant improvements to process separations in terms of product improvements or cost and energy reduction.

Speaker

Dr George Bou Habib, CEO, MMS Membrane Systems AG

George was a chemical engineer from Imperial College 1989-1993. He worked for a year in the plastic additives sector (Harco, Belgium). His PhD in biochemical engineering is from UCL, completed in 1999.

George worked for Nestle in R&D within the Bioprocessing Group until 2001. He then worked for MMS from 2001 in process development, project management and is now CEO. MMS employ 50 people and develop, design and construct membrane systems.
