Overview

Edge computing has been used for a number of years in industry that brings computation and storage closer to the sources of data. By accumulating and packaging data prior to transfer to upper network layers we can remove complexity in enterprise systems and reduce the effort required to obtain meaningful, contextualised, real time data from multiple data sources.

DeltaV™ Edge Environment provides easy and secure access to DeltaV data for use on premise or in the cloud for monitoring, analytics, reporting or other Enterprise applications to drive operational improvements.

Kickstart Your Digital Transformation with Easy Access to DeltaV Data. More than a typical edge gateway, the DeltaV Edge Environment seamlessly handles large volumes of DeltaV data and provides contextualized data to fuel deeper operational insights.

Easy, secure data communication
A simplified connection architecture delivers reduced network complexity utilizing a single outbound flow that is encrypted and one-way to ensure security.

Contextualised data for increased usability
Data is housed in repositories together with DeltaV’ s configuration hierarchy, alarm information and batch events. Providing context and correlations to relevant relationships.

Data that is ready for use
Data is available on the enterprise-level network, ready for access through widely used interfaces such as OPC UA and REST API. Direct hosting of popular analytical tools such as Grafana, Node-Red and Jupyter Notebooks provides a secure sandbox close to the data source.

A data sandbox for execution and experimentation
Data is reflected exactly in the same format as it is inside of DeltaV and is automatically synchronized, allowing for experimenting and testing without disruption to operations.

Low-touch maintenance
Software deployment, troubleshooting, updates and upgrades are executed remotely by Emerson, or users can choose to manage these functions themselves.

Process graphics displayed at the enterprise level
DeltaV Live Enterprise View enables users to view DeltaV Live displays through a web browser—securely, read-only, and with no additional display conversion or engineering effort required. This application extends visibility of the control system beyond the operator station and into the plant network or enterprise level, empowering users with increased situational awareness wherever it’s needed.

Speaker

Duncan Richardson, Life Science Industry Consultant, Emerson

Duncan is an industry consultant at Emerson with 19 years’ experience in delivering automation and control system projects across multiple sectors. He is dedicated to exploring new methodologies that deliver digital transformation roadmaps to customers within the five key pillars for life sciences: pipeline acceleration, flexible manufacturing, operational integrity, real time release and sustainable operations.

Duncan is passionate about delivering automation solutions that provide a benefit to the patients by delivering existing and new clinical products in a time and cost-effective manner with the most innovative digital solutions. This is achieved by working directly with automation engineers, process scientists and industry groups to provide innovative solutions that can delivery key enabling technologies which in turn, assist in achieving key digital transformation objectives.
