Overview

Cybersecurity can seem like an abstract topic with limited relevance to the day-to-day activities of a chemical engineer. But this isn't the case. Engineers need to understand cybersecurity fundamentals plus their application in a professional environment. What can educators, people managers and practising engineers themselves do to support this?

This webinar examines the application of cybersecurity across an asset lifecycle from design, through commissioning, routine operation through to obsolescence. The presenters will discuss the role of engineers, the capabilities they need to possess and how this can be achieved in today's environment.

Speakers

Dr Joanne Tanner, Senior Teaching Fellow & Director, Monash Pilot Plant, Faculty of Engineering, Monash University

Joanne is a Senior Teaching Fellow in the Faculty of Engineering at Monash University, Australia. She is a chemical engineer and chemist by training, has an industry background process control and automation and pilot scale process design and implementation. Joanne joined Monash University as an academic in 2016, and conducts technical research in biorefinery and sustainable processing, process design and scaleup, and digitalisation. She is also interested in engineering education and educational research.

Joanne is the Director of the Monash Student Pilot Plant, and is developing a new chemical and analytical Makerspace for Monash students and student teams. She recently served as Comms Stream Leader on the IChemE Digitalisation Technical Advisory Group, where she led the production of a series of articles and a website dedicated to raising awareness of digitalisation technologies and including cybersecurity, amongst the Chemical Engineering community.

Tristan Hunter, Technical Director, OT Digital Consulting

Tristan is a Chartered Chemical Engineer with more than 20 years experience in the food and beverage sector. He has held a range of technical and leadership roles through his career, primarily in the area of industrial digitalisation. His focus is implementing these capabilities in factories to reduce risk, cost, waste and environmental impact. Tristan has maintained a keen interest in innovation since completing his doctorate, applying new technologies to solve problems and unlock opportunities in manufacturing operations. He is a member of IChemE's Learned Society Committee and previously served on the Digitalisation Technical Advisory Group (DigiTAG).
