Overview

The process industries are seeing a significant shift from focusing on stabilising advanced process control to real-time optimisation. This shift extends the realm of automation beyond the world of the control room operator, to that of the chemical engineer or metallurgist - which involves more complex and larger scope decisions. Drawing on his experience, Niel explores a few pitfalls associated with pursuing such real-time optimisation with operations teams and shares ways in which his team has addressed these pitfalls thus far.

Speaker

Niel Knoblauch, Product Manager, IntelliSense.io

Niel works as technical product manager at IntelliSense.io, where he guides the product roadmapping, development and implementation of process optimisation systems in minerals processing. He has a Master's degree in chemical engineering from Stellenbosch University (South Africa). Niel started his career at Mintek, where he worked as process engineer both in the commercial implementation and research and development of APC systems in minerals processing. When joining IntelliSense.io, he made the leap into the worlds of product management and process optimisation - both of which he considers a great joy and an unceasing journey of discovery.
