University Process Safety Workshops 2025

University Process Safety Workshops 2025

9th June 2025

On Friday 21st February 2025, the S&LP SIG ran a Process Safety Workshop for third year students at Lancaster University.  An article has been published on the university's School of Engineering webpage.  On the same day, a Process Safety Workshop was held in the United Arab Emirates hosted by the American University of Sharjah and attended by students from:

  • American University of Sharjah
  • American University of Ras Al Khamiah

Then on Friday 28th February 2025, the S&LP SIG ran a combined London Process Safety Workshop for three universities, hosted by London South Bank University:

  • Brunel University London
  • Queen Mary University of London (QMUL)
  • London South Bank University (LSBU)

143 students attended from across the six institutions and 36 volunteers organised, presented and facilitated the workshops.  Across the six institutions multiple PhD students, post doctoral staff and technical support staff made this possible.

A huge thank you to all involved: university students, university staff and our enthusiastic and highly knowledgeable and skilled volunteers!  We look forward to 2026!

As in previous years, the students particularly enjoyed the career snapshot talks and interactive activities including the afternoon HAZOP case study exercise.

2026 University Process Safety Workshops

For 2026, we are delighted to announce that the S&LP SIG will be running an inaugural Process Safety Workshop at the University of Bath.  This initial workshop will be run for academic and technical staff and used to scope-out requirements for student workshops starting in 2027.

The 2026 dates for Bath, Lancaster and London universities are provisionally organised for:

  • 29 and 30th January 2026 – University of Bath;
  • 27th February 2026 – Lancaster University;
  • 18th March 2026 – London, held at Brunel University.

We would welcome interest from other academic institutions and from people keen to become involved in co-ordinating and supporting the workshops at the current and new locations.
