Dr Tan is a lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Curtin University, Malaysia. Her research interests are biofuel production, biofuel conversion technology, catalysis development, process optimization and modelling.

Since 2014, she has actively authored and co-authored 26 research articles in ISI and SCOPUS indexed journals. Her Google citation index is 692, h-index: 10 and i-10 index: 10. She advances her research practice by attending local conferences and engaging in manuscript/journal publication activities. She won a Silver Awards in Innovation and Technology Expo 2019.

She has secured a Fundamental Research Grant Scheme 2019 from the Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia. She is now supervising one postgraduate student under this grant. In addition, she has successfully secured an internal Curtin Malaysia Teaching Innovation Project 2020 by proposing a gamified e-quiz to online discussion learning into her teaching practice with beneficial effects on the student experience. Also, she is serving as an editorial board member of SN Applied Sciences, Springer Nature in 2020 and a guest editor for Frontiers of “Low-Carbon Energy Solutions and Wastewater Treatments for Oil Field Produced Water”. She has been awarded Chartered Chemical Engineer status, CEng MIChemE from IChemE, UK in 2020. In addition, she is a fellow of the Higher Education Academy, UK who aims to improve her own education practice and receive continuous updates on learning and teaching process.
