Clive has been involved in process safety since the early 1980s.

He has had a long involvement with writing of the IEC61508 group of standards for safety instrumented systems, which now includes IEC61511 for our process industries.  He is the author of the IChemE Student Series book on safety instrumented systems, which is now directly referenced and used in IEC61511 Part 3 Annex I.

He has been extensively involved with HAZOP studies and involved with hazardous area assessment and designation.  Clive was a specialist in dust explosions and investigated the first major dust explosion in sewage sludge dryers in the UK, consequently being involved with writing the water industry guidance on the subject.

Clive is now a Professional Process Safety Engineer (and an international assessor for this).  He has also been an expert witness to the Courts, more than 15 times, in England & Wales and in Scotland.

He is now involved in writing the IEC62443 group of standards on Cyber security for Process Plant.
