About us

The members of the Society of Chemical Engineers in New Zealand (SCENZ) voted to become the branch of IChemE in New Zealand at a special general meeting on the 24 November 2009. The then Chair of the Board of SCENZ - IChemE in New Zealand, Dr Max Kennedy, said that the move would benefit chemical engineers in New Zealand; "The member vote provides the Board the mandate to develop IChemE in New Zealand and to enhance the networks and profile of chemical and process engineering in New Zealand."

The Board of IChemE in New Zealand acts under delegated authority from the IChemE Board of Trustees which remains ultimately responsible for all IChemE’s activities globally. The New Zealand Board guides and oversees the activities of IChemE in New Zealand in accordance with the Charter and Bylaws of IChemE, the Rules of IChemE in New Zealand and the strategy agreed by the IChemE Board of Trustees. The Board of IChemE in New Zealand operates under a charter that sets out its responsibilities and provides guidance for its operations.

The New Zealand Board is made up of members from the chemical engineering community and regional representatives from seven areas around the country. The Board meets regularly to organise technical meetings, site visits and events for the benefit of members and to continue to enhance the profession.

New Zealand members are supported both locally and globally by IChemE.
