Australia expands its training offer

25th September 2014

Two new IChemE courses designed to help businesses find sustainable solutions to reduce their plant energy and production costs have been introduced to the Australian training calendar.

Energy Cost Reduction – Efficiency and On-Site Generation will take place on 16 October in Perth. It will cover strategies for dealing with reducing energy costs and energy demand and will explore technical options for energy efficiency and on-site generation, energy market trends and economic analysis tools.

It will interest those looking to understand the economic impacts of energy efficiency and on-site power and thermal heat systems.  This includes those responsible for energy systems or energy procurement and operational cost reduction.

Heat Integration is scheduled to take place on 11-13 November in Melbourne.  This course will introduce the basics of pinch analysis – a systematic procedure for the design and improvement of process systems for optimum energy usage and minim simulation.

At completion of this course, participants will be able to assess the energy efficiency of their plant and identify measures that could reduce their plant’s energy consumption.  The course is intended for engineers involved with the design or operation of energy intensive processing, the design companies that support them and government agencies.

IChemE director Australasia, Peter Slane said that Australia’s recent spike in energy costs is expected to continue and is having a significant negative impact on industry bottom line.

“To improve their competitive edge, industry needs to explore options in which to harness their energy consumption for maximum value, with minimum effort and these courses will offer sustainable solutions to achieve this.”

IChemE provides a comprehensive programme of training courses in Australia, ranging from Fundamentals of Process Safety, Layer of Protection Analysis and HAZOP, to Human Factors in Health Safety.  In-company training is also available as a cost effective solution for organisations that have several colleagues interested in a particular course.
