Industry day offers opportunity for growth and innovation at APCChE 2015

A diverse range of industry workshops aimed at developing new ways of thinking, will take place at this year’s Asian Pacific Confederation of Chemical Engineering (APCChE) Congress. APCChE 2015 takes place on 27 September – 1 October in Melbourne, Australia.

Congress chair and former IChemE vice president (qualifications) David Shallcross says that APCChE 2015 has a number of unique features that have not been seen before in a chemical engineering Congress of this nature.

“Industry is the main focus of the first day’s proceedings with a plenary by Paul Stevens from the widely respected international affairs think-tank, Chatham House. Stevens’ session will be focused on geo-politics and the medium term prospect for oil and gas prices.”

“This will be followed by a workshop on chemical engineering and the low carbon transition facilitated by IChemE’s new Energy Centre.”

Shallcross points out that another topic, not normally covered at this type of event, is a session on government policies and relations.

“Other industry-related sessions running on the day include; sustainability and industrial ecology; Asia Pacific site operations; Apps and technology in chemical engineering; process safety and hazard management; and industry best practice.”

Workshops and panel discussions will be running throughout the congress. Topics covered in the workshops include human factors; women in academia; gender issues; workplace leadership and the future of work; and how to publish in technical literature.

The event has attracted a stimulating line-up of international and local experts, including Margaret Jack, Donguyan Zhoa from Fudan University, Shanghai and Monash University, Guohua Chen from Hong Kong University and Eli Keshavarz-Moore from University College London.

APCChE 2015 is the bi-annual conference for the Asian Pacific community of chemical and process engineers and industrial chemists. The Congress will provide the opportunity to discuss the latest developments in the field, recognise outstanding achievement and share lessons learned.  For the first time, the 2015 Congress will be incorporating the Chemeca conference. Running parallel to the Congress will be the International Conference on Coal Science &Technology (ICCS&T). Each conference will run its own scientific programme with some combined plenary sessions and a combined exhibition space.
