New molecular engineering journal launched

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) and the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC), have joined forces to launch a new journal, Molecular Systems Design & Engineering. The journal is the first in its field, and will be freely accessible in 2016 and 2017, to maximise exposure for researchers.

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE); the global professional membership organisation for chemical engineers, and Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC); the world’s leading chemistry community for excellence in chemical sciences, have announced the launch of Molecular Systems Design & Engineering. The journal will be truly interdisciplinary, unique and high-impact, and now both organisations are calling on researchers and academics around the world, to submit their work to be considered for publishing in the inaugural issue.

The first in its field, Molecular Systems Design & Engineering will bring together selected disciplines; biology, chemistry, physics, engineering, computational science, and materials science. The journal will focus on understanding molecular properties, behaviour and interactions, and how this can be applied to the design of processes, to solve global technological problems. The first issue will be published in 2016, and submissions are now being invited.

The journal will also be free to access for the first two years of publication (2016-2017) – a commitment from both organisations to ensure maximum exposure for authors. The free access is available on registration, and will support both RSC and IChemE’s commitment to investing in cutting-edge research.

Professor Juan de Pablo, a leading thinker in developing computational simulations of molecular and large-scale phenomena, based at The Institute of Molecular Engineering in Chicago, USA, will be taking on the role as the journal’s editorial board chair. He will head up an expert team of active researchers in the field, all keen to bring together exciting new discoveries in this area.

‘Molecular Systems Design & Engineering will help to shape and advance the field of molecular engineering for the future’, commented Juan, ‘we want to highlight this way of working at very small scales, whilst trying to build or assemble useful materials or useful devices – using design concepts, an element of theory, or simulation. There isn’t a journal out there that really combines all of these elements. This journal will help us popularise this way of working, and this new field that we call molecular engineering.’
