New professional services contract from IChemE

New professional services contract from IChemE

9th February 2017

The Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE) has published a new addition to its widely used Model Forms of Contract. The Silver Book provides a professional services contract split into two parts - the short form agreement and long form agreement.

The Silver Book was launched today in London’s Keating Chambers with members of the legal profession, process engineers and engineering consultants in attendance. This latest addition to the suite of model forms of contract has been be developed to integrate with existing IChemE contracts – including the bestselling Red Book, which provides a model lump sum contract for a wide range of industries.

Suitable for use in both UK and international settings, The Silver Book offers enhanced flexibility following a thorough assessment of industry needs by IChemE’s Contracts Committee.

The committee chair, IChemE Fellow John Challenger, said:

The Silver Book has been drafted with performance-based projects in mind, specifically for the process industries. Like other forms of IChemE contract it can also be used for more general applications. The Contracts Committee has maintained its approach to ensure close co-operation between the purchaser and the consultant.

“It is very rewarding to see such a crowd at tonight’s launch event, and I hope that The Silver Book is another useful and successful addition to our existing Forms of Contract suite.”

Chief Executive of the Chemical Industries Association (CIA), Stephen Elliot, gave a keynote address at the event.

He said:

“The Chemical Industries Association is pleased to see that both the long and short form contracts are now structured to have global applicability, through the inclusion of Special Conditions.”

The Silver Book Professional Services Contract (Long Form) will go on general sale in PDF and paperback format tomorrow, Friday 10 February 2017.
