Overview
JCEC NSW are pleased to invite you to the National Measurement Institute (NMI) for an exclusive tour of the new gas facilities, showcasing the state-of-the-art gas standards laboratory and expanded capabilities. This visit highlights NMI’s ongoing commitment to supporting Australia’s transition to a low-emissions future through advanced measurement science.
A key feature of the event will be a presentation by Dr Damian Smeulders, Director of Reference Gases at NMI. Dr Smeulders has led the development of high-accuracy calibration gases and proficiency testing services critical to emerging gas industries. His talk will explore:
- NMI’s national role in maintaining and advancing gas measurement standards
- the broader societal and environmental benefits of accurate gas metrology
- international collaborations and contributions to hydrogen safety standards
- insights from his work with ISO TC 197 and Standards Australia ME-093
- the importance of metrology in enabling Australia’s net zero ambitions.
Dr Smeulders also serves as Australia’s representative to the International Consultative Committee for Gas Metrology and has extensive experience as a NATA technical assessor.
This event offers a unique opportunity to engage with cutting-edge developments in gas metrology and understand their impact on national and global energy transitions.
