Overview
An evening event with technical presentation by the Technical Professional team from Winmore Engineering Sdn. Bhd. and time for networking over refreshments.
This event is free and open to all. Bring along your colleagues and introduce them to the Oil & Natural Gas Special Interest Group (SONG) and to IChemE.
Topic
Pressure relief devices are the last line of defense from overpressure in a plant. It is essential to design, install and maintain the PRD properly to ensure that it will be able to relief the pressure in the case of overpressure. Over the years, law enforcements and academicians have continuously improved the guideline for the PRD design, installation and maintenance. Thus, it is imperative to revisit and check the PRD from time to time to ensure that the PRD installed matches the current standards.
When designing a Pressure Safety Valve (PSV), one of the criteria that need to be considered is the inlet piping loss. API has stated that the inlet piping losses for PSV should be less than 3% of the set pressure. However, PETRONAS Technical Standard has a stricter rule stating that inlet piping losses for PSV shall (PSR) be within 3% of set pressure.
Even though it seems simple to design the PSV inlet piping loss within the 3%, however, experience shows us that there are several challenges faced by the industry in order to meet this limit and approximately 12% did not meet this criterion.
This talk will discuss in detail about PSV adequacy check, the challenges faced and way forward to face this challenges.
