Overview

A SONG webinar with a technical presentation by the technical professional team from Group Technical Solutions, PETRONAS.

Due to COVID-19, process control engineers faced great challenges in deploying Advanced Process Control (APC) Implementation to the oil and gas plants at PETRONAS due to resource and logistic entry restrictions. Nevertheless, APC projects must still be deployed and maintained due to their high-value creation to the company mainly from yield maximisation or from energy savings.

Using a real case example, this talk would highlight the issues that arise and the methods which the control engineers adopted to overcome the hurdles, just to avoid the projects being stalled. Most often the control engineers had to change the way of working from conventional method versus new way of Remote working which require change management either to the engineers (mindset change, skill set change) and or to the control system. It also requires some investment in the infrastructure complying with cybersecurity requirements to enable remote deployment of technology as well as utilisation of collaborative tools to facilitate a remote way of working.

Finally, this webinar will also talk about the pros and cons of both methods and discussed the potential of retaining this new way of working as the permanent solution post-COVID-19.
