Webinar: Challenges in Commissioning of Ethanol in Methanol Advanced Process Control Inferential for Methanol Distillation
  • Date From 30th April 2024
  • Date To 30th April 2024
  • Price Free of charge.
  • Location Online: 18:00 MYT. Duration: 1 hour 15 Minutes.

This talk will share lessons learned in commissioning ethanol in methanol Inferential built using lab data during close loop implementation. The inferential was built using historical data followed by step test data following typical standard methods. The controller was built and tested during offline simulation where the controller design was verified and accepted by engineers.

Nevertheless, upon commissioning, it was found that a major disturbance had caused the inferential prediction to be wrong and caused instability in the process. The design of the APC had to be altered to meet control and optimisation objectives.

Ir. Cheryl Poo Hwei Ching, Principal Engineer, PETRONAS GTS

Cheryl is a principal engineer in the field of process control specialised in base layer control, Advanced Regulatory Control (ARC), Procedural Automation and Advanced Process Control (APC) at PETRONAS Group Technical Solution. She has 17 years' experience in this field, mainly working on various oil and gas processes such as Liquid Natural Gas (LNG), gas separation, petrochemical (urea, ammonia, methanol, polymer and olefins) and on top side separation units at upstream platforms.

Cheryl obtained her Chartership with Board of Engineering Malaysia in 2022, IChemE in 2016 and graduated with bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from University of Technology PETRONAS. She is currently actively involved in APC projects and are the focal point for cybersecurity matters.
