Overview
This webinar will explore mineral oil hydrocarbon contamination in palm oil processing from a process engineering and operational control perspective. Focusing on MOSH and MOAH, the session will examine how contamination can enter the palm oil supply chain through equipment, lubricants, handling systems, storage, transport, and material-contact points, and why prevention at source is often more effective than relying on downstream treatment or final product testing.
Drawing on SD Guthrie’s practical experience, the presentation will discuss how an integrated supply chain approach can support risk mapping, engineering controls, targeted Good Milling Practice, lubricant management, food safety systems, and performance verification. The session is designed for engineers, mill and refinery practitioners, quality professionals, researchers, equipment suppliers, and stakeholders interested in strengthening contaminant control through better process design, maintenance discipline, and cross-functional collaboration.

Syed Mohd Hadi bin Syed Hilmi, Assistant Manager, SD Guthrie Technology Centre Sdn Bhd
Syed Hadi is an Assistant Manager at the SD Guthrie Technology Centre, where he leads research and development initiatives in food safety, process technology and product quality. His current work focuses on process contaminants, including mineral oil hydrocarbons (MOSH/MOAH), 3-MCPD esters and glycidyl esters, as well as refining optimisation and contamination risk management. His interests include sustainable processing, regulatory compliance and translating scientific research into practical industrial solutions. He holds a Masters degree in Environmental Biotechnology from The University of Manchester and is currently pursuing a PhD in USM.
