Overview

The virtual event is organised by USM Chemical Engineering Student Society (ChESS) and supported by POPSIG. The roadshow aims to provide an understanding about the palm oil industry through a virtual site tour to IOI Edible Oils Sdn Bhd, Malaysia.

Speakers

Michael Ng Foo Yuen, Assistant Manager, Science, Environment and Sustainability Division, Malaysian Palm Oil Council

Michael Ng graduated from Universiti Sains Malaysia with a Degree in Applied Science (Biology) in 2002 and has now over 17 years of experience in managing environment and sustainability-based programs related to the petrochemicals and palm oil industry. At MPOC, his current focus is primarily on palm oil sustainability certification, palm oil carbon footprint, Indirect Land Use Change (iLUC), biomass utilisation and biodiversity conservation. He was involved in the national MS2530 standards review efforts as a committee member in the MSPO Technical Committee.

Yung Yen Li, Quality Assurance and Quality Control Manager, IOI Edible Oils Sdn Bhd

ChM Yung Yen Li is a Professional Chemist registered with the Malaysian Institute of Chemistry. She also leads the R&D team which is developing processes for 3MCPDE and GE mitigation; MOSH and MOAH minimization in refined oils; new product development as well as process improvement. She also oversees issues pertaining to food safety. She has published several peer-reviewed articles related to environmental pollution, food contamination and sustainable practices in the edible oil industry.
