Overview

This is the second webinar from the Food and Drink SIG promoting the three IChemE priority topics. Focussing on digitalisation, Tristan Hunter of Fonterra will give a short presentation on the work of the IChemE Digitalisation working group. Tristan is the lead on this group representing the food and beverage sector. Grant Coffin of Rockwell Automation UK / Ireland will explain how Rockwell Automation is partnering with organisations in the development of digital twins for their various processes. Dr Tim Walmsley of Waikato University explains digital twins especially focusing on the decarbonisation of processes in the food, beverage and associated industries.

Intended audience: chemical engineers in the food drink and associated sectors. Attendees will understand how IChemE is responding to the challenges of digitalisation. In addition, an insight of the techniques required when developing and using digital twins to mimic industrial processes will be presented. The third of the presentations will highlight research initiatives utilising digital twins as a tool for the decarbonisation of food processing sectors.

Speaker

Tristan Hunter, GM Automation and Operational Technology Fonterra Co-operative Group Limited

Tristan has a PhD in advanced process control from the University of Canterbury and has been working in operational technology roles for more than 20 years. His experience spans both traditional automation systems as well as rapidly evolving areas such as IIoT, machine learning, digital twins, hybrid-cloud architectures, and OT cybersecurity. As a result, he has a pragmatic view of both the opportunities and challenges presented by digitalisation in manufacturing.

Grant Coffin, Manager Software & Controls (SWC) UK & Ireland

Grant has worked in the field of Manufacturing and Industrial Automation for over 25 years. In his various roles he has continually encouraged the evolution of industrial automation and control, information systems, and operational best practice in the UK and Ireland. He has worked consultatively with and across manufacturing and utilities sectors helping companies to shape their digital future safely and securely, de-risking their investment.

Tim Walmsley, Assistant Director of Ahuora - Centre for Smart Energy Systems, University of Waikato

Tim is an Assistant Director of Ahuora - Centre for Smart Energy Systems and leads the team's research on minimising process energy demand and contributes to research focused on the integration of high-temperature heat pumps. His research is supported by Project Ahuora, an Advanced Energy Technology Platform, funded by the New Zealand Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment. The digitalisation of industrial processes through digital twin technology promises step-improvements across all facets of the plant design and operation lifecycle.
