Terms and conditions

  • All entrants must be a member of IChemE and must submit their membership number on the submission form.
  • Each entrant/group can only submit one (1) entry.
  • If entrants are working as a group, the maximum group size allowed is five. All members of the group must be aged between 18-30 years and members of IChemE.
  • All entries must be submitted via Oxford Abstracts. All entries must be received by Wednesday 31 March 2027 (23:59 GMT+1/BST). Entries submitted after this date will not be reviewed.
  • All submissions must be uploaded to Oxford Abstracts using the poster template provided. Any submissions not in the correct template will be ineligible.
  • All entries will be judged in accordance with set criteria.
  • Each category will have an overall winner. Where there is a high number of entries, a category may have joint winners and/or highly commended entries. IChemE reserves the right to not award a winner in the event of the judging criteria not being met.
  • If you have submitted an entry to the Young Engineers Awards for Innovation and Sustainability in a previous cycle which was judged the same work cannot be resubmitted. If you wish to enter the awards this year, you must enter a different project.
  • Entrants must not submit commercially sensitive matter as part of their submission.
  • It is the entrant’s responsibility to not infringe copyright legislation with regards to images – only images that the entrant has permission to use should be included in the poster.
  • If photographs of people are included in the poster, entrants must ensure they have obtained written consent to use the image. A photo consent will be asked to confirm as part of the Oxford Abstracts submission process.
  • All work submitted must be the original work of the person(s) submitting the entry.
  • If you are submitting an entry that is based on work carried out with others as an individual entry, you must gain permission prior to submission from your group members to submit the work solely in your name. It is your responsibility to ensure you have full permission to submit your poster in your name only. Please note that IChemE will take no responsibility for any disputes over ownership of the work submitted.
  • All data submitted as part of these awards will be used in conjunction with IChemE’s data protection and privacy policies.
  • Applicants may use AI tools to support translation, spelling, grammar, and the restructuring of text when preparing an IChemE application. Applicants remain fully responsible for ensuring that all submitted content is original, accurate, and reflective of their own experience. The use of AI to produce generic, inaccurate, or non-personalised content is not permitted and may result in an application being deemed inadmissible. Any unethical use of AI may also trigger IChemE’s disciplinary procedures. IChemE reserves the right to deem an application inadmissible where AI has been used inappropriately. Applicants must disclose whether AI has been used in any part of the preparation of their application before submission. Some projects may use AI as an essential part of the project methodology, such as for research, analysis, digital modelling, or in a similar capacity to specialist equipment or software. This is permitted, provided that entrants clearly identify where AI has been used and explain its role within the project. Entrants remain responsible for ensuring that any use of AI is appropriate, transparent, and accurately reflected in their submission.
