HAZOP Leadership and Management
Overview
This HAZOP leadership and management course is designed for engineers and process safety professionals with experience of the HAZOP technique who want to develop the skills and confidence to lead successful HAZOP studies. You'll learn HAZOP best practice, how to plan and manage HAZOP study programmes, facilitate HAZOP workshops and lead multidisciplinary teams to improve process safety performance throughout the lifecycle of industrial facilities.
HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) is one of the world's most widely used hazard identification techniques for the process industries. Effective HAZOP leadership is essential to ensure studies are well planned, efficiently facilitated and produce practical recommendations that improve process safety and operational performance.
Learning outcomes
By the end of this course you will understand how to:
- prepare for and lead effective HAZOP study meetings and programmes – including defining the scope of the study and choosing the team
- choose nodes (parts of the drawings or operation for HAZOP study)
- estimate the programme requirements for the successful completion of a study
- use facilitation techniques to motivate the team and keep them on task
- avoid common problems encountered during study meetings, including challenging behaviours
- formulate the HAZOP study report
- fulfil the HAZOP team leader’s role in implementing recommendations and managing the process
- apply HAZOP leadership techniques to improve process safety performance across industrial facilities
- Online course only – apply the Delta HAZOP technique for re-validating process hazard analysis.

Attendance certificate & CPD hours
All delegates will be invited to complete an assessment at the end of the course. Delegates scoring 70% and above will be issued with an IChemE HAZOP Leadership and Management pass certificate. Please note, this certification does not serve as a formal IChemE HAZOP leader accreditation or endorsement.
In the case of online courses, CPD hours should be used as an approximate guide and will vary depending on the preferred approach of the delegate and to what extent additional learning is completed.
For participants in Malaysia, the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) has approved CPD hours for this course.

Trainer
Euan McMinn CEng, FIChemE
Euan is a technical project management professional with experience in the oil and gas, refinery, petrochemical, chemical and pharmaceutical industries. He has worked for a number of multinational contracting companies including Foster Wheeler, Aker Kvaerner, Fluor, Jacobs and Thyssenkrupp.
Based in Australia, Euan has delivered projects for ExxonMobil, BP, Shell, Origin Energy, Santos, Qenos and Petronas. He has held project management, business development and process engineering technical and management roles.
Euan is a Chartered Chemical Engineer and IChemE Fellow.
