Every year we see incidents related to water. Incidents such as operators being burned by high temperature water, fires being started from static water flows, and foam-overs occurring in tankage due to the presence of water. This online course will help operators learn how to guard against water in feed tanks, in new suction line-ups and in units during start-ups.

Course outline

Module 1: The nature of water and its usage in process units

  • The nature of water and steam
  • Water in process units

    • water and steam connections
    • asphalt oxidising vessels, stills and tankage
    • water in reflux drums
    • controlled use of water
    • pipe stills
    • vacuum towers
    • other fractionating towers

Module 2: Water in tankage and other water hazards

  • Water in tankage
