Food and Drink Special Interest Group - Committee Members

The Food and Drink Special Interest Group is looking for new committee members to join them. This is a great opportunity to collaborate with existing members, bring fresh ideas, and help ensure continuity as experienced members step down.

We are particularly interested in people who can:

  • Support the running of the committee and step in when needed, helping to coordinate activities and deliver an annual programme of events
  • Deputise for the Chair and Secretary (ideal for someone keen to progress into these roles in the future)
  • Help plan and manage events, including promoting them through social media and raising awareness of the sector
  • Assist with budgeting and tracking spend to make the most of available funds
  • Collaborate with Professional Food Science, Engineering and Technology (ProFSET) group representing technical professional bodies in the UK food and drink industry

This is an excellent opportunity to develop new skills, grow your professional network, and contribute to a vibrant community in the food and drink sector.

Professional Reviewer for Engineering Technician 

The Professional Reviewer - EngTech carries out the Professional Review for candidates seeking election/transfer to Technician Member. This includes assessment of documentary evidence and an optional interview. Reviewers will assess both the applicant’s underpinning knowledge and understanding, and competence and commitment.

Professional Reviewer for Chartered Chemical Engineer

Professional Reviewers for Chartered Chemical Engineer must be Chartered Chemical Engineers and hold CEng registration.  Working in tandem with another reviewer, they assess the competence and commitment of those wishing to becoming Chartered Member - Chartered Chemical Engineer (with or without CEng), which involves the assessment of documentary evidence and an interview.

Professional Reviewer - Professional Process Safety Engineer (PPSE)

Professional reviewers for Professional Process Safety Engineer must be Professional Process Safety Engineers and hold CEng registration.  Working in tandem with another reviewer, they assess the competence and commitment of those wishing to become Professional Process Safety Engineers, which involves the assessment of documentary evidence and an interview.

Professional Reviewers for Chartered Environmentalist must be Chartered Chemical Engineers and hold CEnv registration. Working in tandem with another reviewer, they assess the competence and commitment of those seeking CEnv registration which involves the assessment of documentary evidence and an interview.

Professional Reviewer for Chartered Chemical Engineer - Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)

We are recruiting for IChemE members with Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) registration to join our pool of Professional Reviewers. We require additional volunteer resource to process applications for applicants seeking election/transfer to Chartered Chemical Engineer status that also request RPEQ registration.

Underpinning Knowledge and Understanding (UKU) Panel – Vice Chair

The UKU Panel reports to the Education Subcommittee (EdSub) and is responsible for ratifying assessments of the underpinning knowledge and understanding of applicants for professionally qualified membership or registration who do not hold exemplifying qualifications.

If you are a Chartered Member or Fellow, hold CEng registration, with significant experience of the assessment of UKU and would like to support the Chair in this important role, we encourage you to apply.

New Zealand Board - Deputy Chair

IChemE are recruiting for a Deputy Chair for the New Zealand National Board.  You will be responsible for identifying strategic priorities for IChemE in New Zealand, supporting the Board of Trustees and Member Engagement Committee, providing oversight for university and corporate engagement and sharing good practice. Please note the description of Chair role is included in the role descriptor as Deputy Chair generally becomes Chair after one year.

Education outreach
Schools Challenge Day Engagement Volunteers

We currently have opportunities for volunteers to take part in School Challenge Days in certain locations.

DiscoverChemEngLIVE school challenge days are for students in Year 8 (S1/S2 Scotland) in UK schools to help them explore chemical engineering through an interactive activity day. Starting in Spring term 2026.

Up to 36 school students, working in teams of 6, are given the opportunity to build essential employability skills and explore the careers and skills used in chemical engineering. The workshops are available for mainstream, state-funded secondary schools schools within Scotland, Merseyside, Cheshire, North East, Yorkshire and the Humber.

Young Peoples Engagement Volunteers
