Overview

As part of the 2019 IChemE Hull & Humber Members Group events calendar, Croda will be hosting a tour of their Hull manufacturing site on Wednesday 17th July. The visit will include an introduction to Croda, as well as a site tour to view the various production areas and plants. Light refreshments will be provided.

Croda is the name behind the high performance ingredients in some of the biggest, most successful brands in the world, creating, making and selling products that are relied on by industries and consumers worldwide.

Our Hull manufacturing site was established in 1911 as Universal Oil, producing fatty acids. The site possessed state-of-the-art refining processes for stearic acid production and when Croda acquired it in 1967 these refining processes were used to produce fatty acid amides, resulting in the leading Crodamide range.

Today the site continues to make amides that are mainly used as polymer additives in a wide range of plastics and packaging. It is continually improving its processes, developing even stronger sustainability credentials, such as it’s own wind turbine to generate 40% of the site energy needs.

In February 2017, Croda announced a £27 million capital expansion project at its Hull facility with construction starting in May 2017. The investment will nearly double existing capacity and enable Croda to meet growing demand for polymer additives through to 2030.

Due to the historic nature of the site and the ongoing construction works, we are unable to provide disabled access for this tour. There is a limited supply of visitor's PPE available, where possible visitors are requested to bring their own safety helmet, safety glasses and safety boots. Arms and legs must be fully covered (overalls are advisable, but not mandatory).
