This is the first of a series of webinars planned between IMechE and IChemE on zero carbon. This one will focus on the challenging journey we will all be taking as London moves to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of road transport.

Presenters

Rosalind O’Driscoll, GLA Air Quality Manager Transport Emissions

Rosalind is the lead on Transport Emissions in the Air Quality Team at City Hall, where she has worked since 2017. Before this Rosalind graduated from Imperial College London with a PhD in air pollution.

Martin West, TfL Senior Engineer Road and Surface Vehicles

Martin joined Transport for London’s Engineering Directorate in 2016 as a Senior Engineer and is responsible for developing technical strategy and delivery of TfL’s hydrogen bus projects. The role entails working with UK and EU stakeholders, monitoring technical, environmental, commercial hydrogen industry developments and supporting operators to deploy fuel cell buses.

Before joining TfL, Martin worked at Arriva, one of Europe’s largest transport providers, where he managed engineering teams at bus garages across London ensuring the extensive fleet is safe and reliable.

Mark Poulton, TfL Principal Technical Specialist

Mark is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer. With a career in the transport and automotive industries, Mark has a breadth of experience including commercial vehicle engineering, air quality research, power-train research and development, government-sponsored accreditation programmes and world-leading environmental improvement projects.

Mark was involved in designing and implementing London’s Low Emission Zone to improve air quality and worked with the Greater London Authority to develop the Mayor’s Electric Vehicle Delivery Plan.

Mark’s current role is to provide technical assurance as part of policy initiatives to promote Electric Vehicles (EVs) and identify opportunities to exploit low carbon vehicle technology. He is TfL’s technical lead for a suite of R and D and demonstration projects evaluating many aspects of vehicle electrification – including understanding the impacts of charging today’s and future EVs on the energy system, such as through wireless charging or deploying vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology.

Registrants will be sent a meeting link two days before the event.
