Hydrogen Refuelling Station Tour
  • Date From 6th December 2017
  • Date To 6th December 2017
  • Price Free of charge, open to all IChemE members
  • Location 22 Atlas Way, Sheffield, S4 7QQ

The refuelling station is sited on the Advanced Manufacturing Park just two miles from the M1 and consists of a 225kW wind turbine coupled to a hydrogen electrolyser feeding a vehicle dispenser. The facility showcases how hydrogen can be generated on-site, with wind and water, to provide retail hydrogen fuel in support of the roll out of fuel cell electric vehicles.

The station has recently been upgraded to offer hydrogen gas at 700 bar. This allows fuel cell vehicles to have a longer range of between 350 – 400 miles and extend the reach of clean emission transportation in South Yorkshire, particularly to other refuelling stations in London.

The visit will include a tour and a talk. Afterwards, visitors are encouraged to test drive a Hyundai Ix35 or Toyota Mirai FCEV.

The tour of the site will incorporate the electrolysis, compression and dispensing equipment, concluding with refuelling demonstrations. The talk will look at the key technical challenges to using hydrogen as a clean fuel but also look at the benefits and other areas of adoption for green hydrogen.
