Webinar: Cyber-Physical System and Digital Twins for Remote Operation of Inspection Robots

Webinar: Cyber-Physical System and Digital Twins for Remote Operation of Inspection Robots
  • Date From 11th January 2023
  • Date To 11th January 2023
  • Price Free of charge, open to all.
  • Location Online. 10:00 GMT. Duration 1 hour.

Overview

Mobile robots are becoming more widely used in a range of inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) missions in complex industrial environments. By connecting real-world robots (physical twins) with their digital counterparts (digital twins) in real-time expands the operational capabilities of the overall cyber-physical system. Moving beyond single robot missions means considering the scalability of these systems with respect to the connective digital tissue (network communications infrastructure) and human-robot interfaces.

Speaker

Dr Simon Watson, Reader in Robotic Systems, The University of Manchester

Simon Watson received his M.Eng. degree in Mechatronic Engineering in 2008 and PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2012, both from The University of Manchester, UK. He is currently a Reader in Robotic Systems within the Robotics for Extreme Environments Group at The University of Manchester. His research interests are focused on the development of robotic systems (aerial, aquatic and ground) for the inspection, maintenance and repair of critical energy generation infrastructure assets.
