Overview

Mick Dawson of BHR gave a wonderful presentation on Mixing for Chemical Assisted Sedimentation & P Removal at our Mixing in the Water Industry event.

Unfortunately the webinar broke down and the recording was unusable. He has kindly offered to deliver an extended (60min + 30 min questions) repeat of this, along with a second webinar on potable water mixing and a third on sludge mixing.

Mick’s presentation will cover:

  • Background
  • Wastewater Mixing Applications
  • Mixing Objectives, Design Criteria and Constraints
  • Liquid blending design criteria: flow regime; blend time; mixture quality (Coefficient of Variation); pressure drop; installation size/length
  • Solids suspension design criteria: bulk flow velocity [m/s], bottom shear stress [Pa], installation size/length
  • Solids distribution design criteria: bulk flow velocity [m/s], solids concentration variation [-],
  • Flow pattern design criteria: Residence Time Distribution (RTD); Back-mixed v Plug Flow; number of stirred tanks in series
  • Rapid Mixing of Chemicals
  • Equipment & performance: Simple sparger; Stirred Tank Flash-mixer; Static Mixer; Flume; Jet Mixer; Gas Mixer
  • Mixing in Wastewater Tanks
  • Equipment & performance: Submersible Mixer; Top-mounted Mixer; Jet Mixer (pump and nozzles)

This webinar will benefit anyone involved in wastewater treatment, and by the end, you'll know how to at least specify mixing for wastewater treatment.
