Webinar: Quantifying, Modelling and Mitigating Process Emissions – Masterclass 4 – TAKING ACTION N2OW
- Date From 30th August 2022
- Date To 30th August 2022
- Price Free of charge, open to all.
- Location Online: 11:00 BST. Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes.
Overview
This masterclass series, co-hosted by IChemE and IWA, brings participants up to speed with process emissions of nitrous oxide and methane from wastewater treatment through presenting the key findings from a newly (April 2022) launched IWA publication and sharing the experience of progressive utilities around the world. A masterclass series has been hosted in 2022 by the Climate Smart Utilities Initiative. This fourth masterclass will be a lively panel discussion with global experts on the topic of quantification, modelling and mitigation of nitrous oxide (N2O).
The previous three masterclasses in the series were:
- Masterclass 1 – Overview on quantifying, modelling and mitigating process emissions
- Masterclass 2 – Nitrous Oxide
- Masterclass 3 – Methane emissions in wastewater treatment
Moderator
Amanda Lake, Head of Carbon and Circular Economy, Water Europe
Amanda is a chartered chemical engineer, a member of the IChemE Water SIG and Learned Society Committee, IWA Climate Smart Utilities programme and in her day job, Head of Carbon and Circular Economy within Jacobs Water Europe business. Her 21 years in the water sector has included strategic, design and site roles. In recent years she has focused on the climate crisis and in particular action on quantifying and mitigating process emissions from wastewater treatment.
Panelists
Jose Porro, CEO, Cobalt Water Global
Jose is Founder and CEO of Cobalt Water Global, has over 20 years of drinking and wastewater model-based decision support, is an expert in AI techniques and an internationally recognized expert on measuring, modelling, and mitigating wastewater N2O process emissions. He is chair of the IWA Task Group on GHG.
Liu Ye, Associate Professor, University of Queensland
Liu Ye is an Associate Professor at The University of Queensland in the School of Chemical Engineering. Her research focuses on sustainable and cost-effective water and wastewater treatment, including on-line process control, novel technology development, resource recovery and monitoring and mitigation of nitrous oxide emissions from biological wastewater treatment processes. She and her team are leads in the research field of understanding and mitigating fugitive GHG emissions from urban wastewater systems.
Nerea Uri, Development Engineer, VandCentre Syd Denmark
Nerea is PhD Student and Development Engineer with Danish utility VandCentre Syd Denmark and is involved in the monitoring and mitigation of N2O emissions across VCS facilities.
Mikkel Holmen Andersen, Chief Technology Officer, Unisense A/S
Mikkel is Chief Technology Officer with Unisense A/S and has been involved in N2O monitoring and mitigation for the past three decades - and was integral in the development of the only liquid phase N2O instrument commercially available.
David De Haas, Senior Technical Director, GHD
David de Haas is Senior Technical Director with GHD, Australia. An applied scientist experienced in nutrient wastewater treatment design, energy optimization and emissions reduction, he has over three decades of experience in water and wastewater treatment systems.
