The Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Center (MKOPSC)

The Mary Kay O'Connor Process Safety Center sits within the Texas Engineering Experiment Station at Texas A & M University.

Established in 1995 through the generosity of a chemical engineer, T.  Michael O'Connor, in memory of Mary Kay, who died in the Phillips Petroleum Complex explosion in Pasadena, Texas.  The mission of the MKOPSC is to lead the integration of process safety - through education, research and service - into learning and practice of all individuals and organisations.

Center for Safety Excellence (CSE)

IChemE Safety Centre and the Center for Safety Excellence signed a cooperation agreement in April 2015.  This agreement set out three key objectives:

  • educate young professionals and safety engineers to make safety second nature
  • enhance safety in the process industries
  • develop globally respected guidelines and standards for process and plant safety.

This is achieved through opportunities in the following areas; R&D cooperation, process safety education and awareness for early-career academics and process safety methodologies.

Center for Advanced Process Safety (CAPS)

In May 2016 the IChemE Safety Centre and Centre of Advanced Process Safety (CAPS) from the Institute of Technology PETRONAS Sdn. Bhd. (ITPSB) signed an Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate.  The purpose of the MOU is to establish a framework for collaboration and technical coordination between CAPS and the ISC regarding process safety education, continuing professional development products, and strategic leadership and development with a view to benefiting from each other’s missions.

Jordan Engineers Association (JEA)

Jordan Engineers Association includes 146 thousand engineers.  It regulates the profession and contributes to the planning and developing of engineering education and advocacy of the interest of its members.  JEA also endeavours to improve the professional and scientific level of engineers in order to achieve competitiveness according to the international standards.

Energy Institute (EI)

The Energy Institute (EI) and Institution of Chemical Engineers Safety Centre (ISC) signed an Memorandum of Understanding in June 2023 to work together in relation to the Toolbox web-app.  This is a progressive web-app that has been developed by the EI and connects you and other users around the world to health and safety insights from leading energy companies partnered with the EI.

The ISC's safety alerts are now available on Toolbox, joining hundreds of other incidents shared by industry professionals. Toolbox, a free-to-use platform, serves as a valuable resource holding incident lessons and safety information contributed by global energy companies.
