Overview

The Joint Chemical Engineering Committee (JCEC) NSW invites you a presentation from Dr Peter Nadebaum who will provide an introduction to PFAS: what are they, where and why they have been used and why they are now being phased out.

Widely used in the process industries for many decades, and particularly in fire protection, PFAS now present a difficult problem for hazardous waste management and contaminated site clean-up.

Peter will discuss how Chemical Engineering techniques are used to quantify the scope of the problem, to understand the nature of the response that is necessary, and in the selection and application of management strategies and treatment technologies.

Speaker

Dr Peter Nadebaum, Principal and Senior Technical Director - Environment, GHD

Dr Nadebaum, a Principal of the consulting firm GHD Pty Ltd and a chemical engineer, has more than 40 years’ experience in the field of environmental management, particularly addressing the problems of contaminated land and groundwater, hazardous waste, and in the management and treatment of water and wastewater.

He is experienced in auditing, assessment, remediation, risk assessment, and risk management. He has provided technical leadership on many projects addressing PFAS contamination, and has been involved in the development of industry guidance on how to assess and respond to PFAS contamination problems.
