Overview

Are you searching for your perfect career and not sure which direction to take? Three speakers from Magnox (Nuclear Decommissioning), Tata Steel UK Ltd (Iron & Steel), Accord UK Ltd (Pharma/Health) explaining what chemical engineers do in their industry, and what are the future prospects. There will be an opportunity to interact with speakers and ask questions.

This webinar is mainly aimed at undergraduates or those engineers considering a career change. Anyone is welcome to attend.

Speakers

Alisdair Stewart, Magnox

Alisdair is a project engineer at Magnox.  He studied a masters in chemical engineering with oil & gas technology at Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh graduating in 2016.  Starting with Magnox in 2017 via the nuclear graduates scheme he has had the opportunity to undertake different rotations within the company and see the wider nuclear industry. Starting out in the Magnox’s technical function as part of a team which provided technical engineering advice to various different sites across Magnox. He also undertook a rotation within the ONR (Office for Nuclear Regulation), which gave him the opportunity to learn more about the regulatory environment that Magnox operated within.

He then moved to Berkeley Power Station and started working within the projects team, which is his current role, primarily involved with delivery of projects which are entering the commissioning phase of the project life cycle. This involves a lot of planning on site work and testing of newly installed systems and process plant.  He has also been involved with projects at concept design phase.

Bryan Clarke, Tata Steel

Bryan has been a Process Engineer at the large Port Talbot Steel Works in South Wales for the last 5 years.  Bryan graduated in 2008 with a degree in Chemical and Biochemical Engineering from Swansea University, and has over 10 years of experience working in the Chemical, Nuclear and Steel Industries.  Bryan gained his chartership in 2015 and is the Secretary of the IChemE South Wales branch.  Port Talbot is owned by Tata Steel, employees over 4000 people and produces up to 3.5 million tonnes of hot rolled and cold rolled annealed steel coils per annum for a variety of different end uses.

Cameron Ferguson, Accord Healthcare / Pharmaceuticals

Cameron is a process engineer with an Meng in Chemical Engineering and over 2 years’ experience working for Accord-UK Ltd.  Accord is a leading UK generic drugs manufacturer producing 20% of the UK’s generic drugs, with over 130 different products in their portfolio.
