Overview

Co-gasification of plastic and biomass waste mixture is said to be an attractive energy-recovery option to handle massive amount of plastic and biomass waste generated by society. The gasification technology had gained interest by various researchers due to its hydrogen enriched syngas which could potentially be a substitution of the conventional fossil fuels. It is proven that co-gasification of plastic and biomass is able to enhance the process efficiency and saves operating costs, leading to more efficient waste disposal. For many years, hydrogen has had a closely linked to the transport and fuel sector. Hence, this session will provide some recent insights and progress for various palm oil biomass and plastic thermochemical conversion technologies and key generation pathways for biofuels and bioenergy production.

Speaker

Bridgid Chin Lai Fui, Associate Professor, Curtin University Malaysia

Dr. Bridgid Chin is an associate professor in Chemical and Energy Engineering Department at Curtin University Malaysia. She obtained her PhD from Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP) in 2015.

She is recognized for her creative contributions within the field of green technology particularly on the conversion of biomass and municipal solid wastes to renewable energy via thermochemical conversion, which firmly focused on solving real-world problems particularly on mitigating climate change and developing clean energy. She previously involved in 5 international grants, i.e. International Foundation of Science (IFS) 2017, ASEAN Science and Technology Fund (ASTIF) 2019, and Japan-ASEAN Science, Technology and Innovation Platform (JASTIP-Net) 2019, 2021, and 2022, which involved in gasification and pyrolysis processes. She was previously shortlisted as one of the finalists for the IChemE Malaysia Awards under the category of Young Chemical Engineer in Research Award in 2015.
